Zoe Weiss
Cello and Viola da Gamba

Zoe Weiss performs extensively on Baroque cello and viola da gamba in the Boston area and beyond. She is much in demand as a soloist and continuo player and has performed with Les Délices, Exsultemus, Long & Away, Sonnambula, and Cambridge Concentus (with whom she toured Japan under the direction of Joshua Rifkin). Zoe fell in love with Baroque opera as a student, creating a staged adaptation of Purcell’s The Fairy Queen which she directed as well as music directing a historically staged production of the Masque of Cupid & Death in Boston. She co-founded Helios Early Opera and co-directed the Helios productions of David et Jonathas, Pimpinone, and Artemisia. Zoe is a founding member and co-artistic director of Consort Conspiracy, a viol consort that collaborates with poets, contortionists, and actors to craft unique performances and which will soon be releasing a recording of the works of David Funck. She is also passionate about non-classical music and has performed with the Turkish ensemble Dünya as well as co-founding the Folk Baroque trio. Zoe holds degrees from Oberlin Conservatory and Boston University where Catharina Meints, Laura Jeppesen, Sarah Freiberg and Steven Plank were among her teachers and mentors.
